Hi, thanks for getting in touch.

We would prefer you to nominate a specific version or versions. If there are ships which include characters from different versions, you can nominate them under either of the fandoms they come from, or in Crossover Fandom. See here for examples of how this principle applies to other fandoms such as Arrowverse, MCU and Star Wars.

Hope that makes sense; do ask if it's still unclear.

This seems inconsistent with how you treated DC Comics in another post; that fandom consists of many different titles and timelines and reboots, but you insisted on keeping it together. But Dangan Ronpa is a much smaller franchise, with a smaller number of characters and plenty of characters who intact between instalments, and it has to be split up? And then you put Homestuck and Hiveswap together, even though they're completely different formats and have totally different casts, which is only going to result in the smaller Hiveswap fandom getting buried. This just seems really inconsistent.

We're not necessarily aiming for consistency above all else; the main goal is to ensure that the tag set is as manageable as possible both for us on the back end and for participants to use when signing up. This will mean that we're taking decisions on a case by case basis, and indeed part of the point of posts like this one is to help us gather the information we need to make those decisions.

yeah, it’s just that the installments are connected so in this fandom pretty much everyone uses the “all media” tag to refer to that. it’s not a crossover.

Thanks very much for replying, but we'd appreciate a little more information before making a decision, as none of the mod team is particularly familiar with this fandom. From our research, it doesn't seem that the use of the AMT tag is universal among the fandom on AO3 (as opposed to works tagged with one of the fandoms appearing in that tag by default).

More generally, it seems that the various instalments are all in continuity with each other, but that relatively few characters appear in more than one instalment. If this is the case, we would still prefer to have pairings nominated under a specific fandom that at least one character from them belongs in (or in Crossover Fandom if you prefer).

so, all of the characters from the first two installments (the characters being shipped) are major players in the v3 anime, which continues the story, but using the v3 anime tag doesn't work because the tagset mistakenly says it's not canonical, so it's easier to class them as AMT

If you feel the anime best expresses which versions of the character's you'd like written you can nominate under the tag. It doesn't have to be canonical for nomination purposes.

I'm sorry, but it really seems like you're wedded to the letter of the rules even when an edge case for a fandom you're unfamiliar comes up that should be treated a little differently. This isn't encouraging.

Hi there! The intent here isn't to stick to our rules no matter what, but make it easier for those requesting a fandom to match with which fandom/version of canon they mean. In this case this means avoiding people asking for different versions of Dangan Ronpa since there is both an anime and videogame series.

We just want to be clear about which version of canon is being nominated, if the nominator wants to use sirvalkyrie's suggestion of "Dangan Ronpa (Hope's Peak Arc)", this would be perfectly fine.

Danganronpa, Dangan Ronpa 2, and the Dangan Ronpa 3 animes tell one continuous story, it just jumped mediums between the first two parts and the conclusion. Some exchanges resolve it by calling it "Dangan Ronpa (Hope's Peak Arc)" to keep that story together but not everything Dangan Ronpa in one place.
